Melatonin - Sleep
Melatonin is a hormone produced by our body for regulating sleep. When our eyes detect sunset, our brain signals the body to produce melatonin to prepare our body for sleep. As such, as a general rule, we should not be eating after 8:00 pm (there-about, depending on the sunset time in each area), because the body is already in the shutdown mode (some doctors advise not eating four hours before sleep).
If we eat heavily late at night, the various body organs are not getting its rightful rest, but instead they need to work over time. This is also not good for the general health if we sleep late very regularly. Melatonin can come in supplements form, and may be prescribed by doctors to help patients who have problem sleeping.
Doctors advise 8 hours of sleep in general. This corresponds with Chinese medical studies that the body repairs its various organs between 11pm and 7am during sleep.
I strongly encourage everyone to have sufficient sleep each night, so that we stay healthy and hopefully leading to less stress.
Note: Studies have shown that sleeping extra doesn't help, when we feel tired or when we missed some hours of sleep the previous night. All we need is 8 hours the following night.
